Author City Navigator v2008 installation

I just got the free DVD of City Navigator v2008 from Garmin (last time
they sent me CN v8 and I requested for current version), and my =
installation
seems different that what Bruce reported few weeks ago.

If I remember correctly Bruse said that his doesn't ask for the 25-char
code, but just the Serial #'s comes with the DVD. Mine comes with Serial
#'s too, but the installation asks for 25-Chr Code, and doesn't ask for
Serial #'s.

Or mine works exactly same with all older versions I have before.
Bruce.

That's correct in my case. I had my Nuvi connected at the time of
installation so it could have gotten the unlock code either from my PC
installation or from my Nuvi, both of which were unlocked for v8. It didn't
ask for the unlock again. It only asked for product key from the back of
the 2008 update dvd.

I suppose it's even possible it got my unlock code from the Garmin web site
where I registered it.

Bruce.

There are 2 versions. One is for the pre-loaded GPS units like Nuvi
and the other is for the units you load from maps generated on your
pc. The pre-loaded units seem to work with simply the code on the
back of the cd case.

There is some different here and it's possible why mine asked for the
26-chr code when your didn't, because I installed to computer *not* Nuvi =
so
I didn't connect my Nuvi 680 to computer.

Yep, that's probably it. I did both my PC and Nuvi in one shot. Yours must
have needed the unlock code because it didn't have access to your Nuvi.

Bruce.
