I'm sure it must be me but I can't figure out a way to persuade
Mapsource to take us over The Channel on a ferry rather than The
Tunnel.

We live just outside Dover so the ferries are just down the road but
Mapsource insists on taking us up the M20 to the trains. Even if I put
the Dover and Calais ferry terminals in as waypoints the route it plans
takes us into the Dover port, out again and up to the trains, over the
channel then into the Calais terminal.

There must be a way of telling it to use the ferry...isn't there?

(Ferries aren't on my avoid list. I checked that :)

Can you break it down to two separate trips, one to the Dover side ferry,
the other from the ferry terminal to destination?

Strange. I asked for a Paris-to-London route with MapSource 6.10.2 and
MetroGuide Europe 8, and it used the Dover-Calais ferry without any
prompting. Same for Dover-to-Paris. My Auto-Routing settings are:
Car/Motorcycle, Avoid U-Turns and Carpool Lanes, Faster Time, No Road
Preference.

I had the same problem with my 60CSx here in Puget Sound, WA. USA. It
refused to take a ferry unless that was the only option. Customer service
told me to try putting a waypoint halfway between the two towns on the ferry
route. I tried that and it then wanted the ferry to turn around at that
waypoint and go back to the overland route. After a lot of experimentation I
found that if I go directly to my waypoint on the ferry route without
putting the town the ferry leaves from on the route it works, here at
least. Don't know how the Nuvi works but if your can do that it's worth a
try.

Hi Edwin,

That may work (although I don't need the route UK-side as it's only three
miles) so thanks for the suggestion but, as you'll see from my response to
Earl, his suggestion resolved it.

This route seems to be completely screwed-up on my Mapsource as starting any
continental route using the Garmin-supplied waypoints for the Calais ferry
terminal results in crossing back over the channel on the ferry then back
again on the train! Someone suggested this was because both the Garmin
waypoints for this terminal are on the exit-to-UK side of the dock.

Ah well, I do now have a solution.

Thanks Earl, that sorted it for me. I put a point halfway on the
Dover-Calais ferry crossing route and Mapsource obligingly plotted a
route using the ferry :).

My preferences are the same (I assume by "no road preferences" you have
the slider at midpoint?) but using the first Paris and London waypoints
on my Mapsource 6.13.1 as the route starting and end points results in a
Channel Tunnel crossing on the suggested route.
