Author Can anyone tell me what a fodor's travel guide is and what it will do for me

I just bought my first GPS, a Garmin nuvi 660 from Newegg.

I just got to say this thing is GREAT. It's found me a couple of
shorter routes already, I love it.

I'm still learning and I got a few questions

1. What's this fodor's travel guide is and why I would want it?
I'm going to Martha's Vineyard with some friends next Month, my first
time away from home in a few years.

2. The Fodor travel guide does it tell if a place has handicap access,
some older places really have poor access. I can understand that, I
just want to know before I go.

3. I would like to get an extra suction cup mount with a 12v adapter,
anyone know of Tigergps (http://www.tigergps.com/nuvi660acc.html) or
if anyone can tell me recommend a better site.

Fodor's Travle Guides have been around in print for many years. You can
check one out at a bookstore before buying the electronic version.

It does give a synopsis of places to see, rates a few restaurants, and some
travel ideas. IMO, it is greatly overpriced and while it gives some
restaurnat information, it is not all inclusinve and misses some of hte best
places to go. I'd take a hint from the locals long before a travel guide.
You can do some =reading on line about most places and plan your trip well
ahead of time.

I don't recall if that info is there.

It's a glorified version of Points Of Interest (POIs). What the travel
guide makers do is select the highlights from an area in to a searchable
categorized database. Each POI can optionally have a photo and/or sound
file that plays when you near the POI. Imagine walking down a city street
and the GPS narrating each POIs as you pass them.

I've never read anyone having anything good to say about the TravelGuides.

Bruce.

As an alternative to the Nuvi Fodor Guide you might want to try using the
city or area web sites or AAA (or other guides) to find restaurants and
places of interest that might interest you and list them. Locate these
places and add them to your <Favorites> in the Nuvi.
I just visited the Cape Ann area in Massachusetts, for the first time, and
used this method to plan my entire stay there. It worked great for me.
Enjoy your MV trip.

Go to www.fodors.com and join the talk forum. You will see many posts in
which a traveler asks for info about a city and gets replies from people who
live there as well as travelers who have experienced both good and bad
service/food/accomodations. etc.
