Update Nuvi 350 files from PC
|

| I can open the Nuvi in Windows Explorer and make a copy of it. If I try
to write a file back to the Nuvi nothing happens. Is there a way to do this?

Your device is working correct.
You can't simply change the *.gpx file and upload to your device.
The gpx data are somehow stored in the internal memory. If you
change the *.gpx file, the data in the internal memory is used.
Backup the *.poi file(s) (located in folder garmin\poi) and delete all
favourites by pressing "Where to?" -> "My Locations" -> "Delete All"
Connect your device to your PC and upload the *.poi file(s) and *.gpx file.
Restart your device. The *.gpx files will now take effect.

Are you telling me that it will upload the current.gpx from my PC?
I have thought about deleting all the favorites and uploading what I
wanted to keep as POIs. But I really wanted to delete SOME of the
entries in Favorites.
I hope this is clear.

As I suspected, "delete all" and uploading puts the old favorites into a
POI file. Not what I really wanted but it will have to do. Sigh.
Thanks... Bob

ok. There's a misunderstanding.
You can see the content of the *.gpx file located in the folder garmin\gpx
by pressing "Where to?" -> "My Locations" -> "Favorites".
This *.gpx file you have to copy directly from your PC to your device.
For POIs wich you can see by pressing
"Where to?" -> "My Locations" -> "Custom POIs" change the *.gpx file
and use Garmin POI Loader.
If you delete all POIs (as described above) you clear the nüvis memory.
By copying the *.poi-file on your device (directly from PC) you can see
the stuff under "Custom POIs".
By copying the *.gpx-file on your device (directly from PC) you can see
the stuff under "Favorites".
If you like to create Custom POIs from a *.gpx-file, use POI Loader.
Formerly delete the stuff in the gpx-file you don't want to have on
your device.

I understand how to see Favorites, POIs, etc on the nuvi...
What I can't seem to do is copy current.gpx "directly from your PC to
your device."
Are you able to do that? What procedure do you follow?

yes, I can do that and I see the changes I made before.
I see the changes in "Favorites" but only if I previously
deleted all POIs (as described earlier) and copy the gpx-file
after the deleting in garmin\gpx folder on the nüvi.
(And of course also copy the poi-file in garmin\poi to see my POIs)

Tell me if this is the exact procedure that you are following:
1. Copy current.gpx from nuvi to pc
2. Alter current.gpx on pc
3. Delete all POIs on nuvi
4. Copy changed current.gpx from pc to nuvi
Is this correct?

Yes, this is absolutely correct.
Backup also the file(s) in the folder garmin\poi on your nuvi.
Otherwise this data get lost.
