| Hi group:
I've got a nuvi 360 which is convinced that the street I frequently need
is a major road -- it's actually a quiet backwater, and I need to go on
a main road parallel until just about my destination. Is there any way I
can tell the nuvi NEVER to use that piece of road? Doing a "detour" each
time is a pain, and yes -- I do know the route well enough that I could
turn the box off, but this has become a quest! :-)
Thanks!

Older Garmin car navigators such as my Quest have "Custom Avoidances". You
can select specific road segments or rectangular areas that the routing
function will then avoid.
I don't think the Nuvi has that feature. I guess Garmin thought the average
user would not be able to understand it. You could try setting your vehicle
type to a truck or set the avoid unpaved roads option.
Another possibility is to define a via point on the road you want to take.

As you say, not an option in the 360.

It IS a paved road, just a side street -- and even set to truck I got
directed down it <sigh>

also not an option on a 360 -- guess I'll just have to live with it!

Are you sure? Even though the Nuvis don't support routes I thought they
allowed one via point.

Well, I can't see any way to do that, although I'm always willing to
learn! :-)

With a destination chosen and a route active, you can add a via point.
So that would change to routing to use different roads to go to the via
point.
Cleverness or luck in choosing the via point could result in the routing
being what you want.
And it may be that if you simply continue to drive on past the via
point, the route will then be recalculated (to the original destination)
and you will thereby have effected a detour or forced a change in the
routing that has the GPS using a road or roads that you prefer.

yes, I can do that...bit of a nuisance! I was hoping for a way to
simply block that road forever! :-)

Yes, that works too.
