Have Nuvi 370. Operating manual says car adapter takes a 2 Amp AGC/3AG fuse.

After finding out about these in an earlier thread here, I went to buy a
spare fuse. The fuse in the adapter turns out to be a 1 Amp GMA type fuse,
which, also, is much shorter than 3AG fuses.

Have written to Garmin support through their website. and will relate
whatever answer I receive, but I am very glad I took the adapter to the
store. I can imagine the levels of blood pressure reached should we have
been on a holiday (dutifully carrying 2 Amp 3AG spare fuses) and the adapter
fuse blew.

Does anyone with a 370 really have a 2Amp 3AG fuse in their adapter?

Thanks

Jay

As promised in original post below, here are my email to Garmin and their
response....

ME:
Operating manual says a car adapter uses 2 Amp AGC/3AG fuse. When buying a
spare, found fuse in adapter is a 1 Amp GMA fuse, which is also much shorter
than a 3AG fuse. Please explain just what to use.

GARMIN:
Thank you for contacting Garmin International, I'll be more than happy to
help you with this. You may use any regular 2 AMP fuse. You may find the
fuse at any hardware store or an auto parts store.

Rep apparently ignored my finding a 1 (ONE) Amp fuse.

Jay-

Will the 3AG fuse fit in place of the shorter GMA fuse? If so, the
Garmin Rep is probably correct. The factory might have substituted the
one Amp GMA fuse when they ran out of two Amp 3AG fuses.

On the other hand, I would prefer to have more protection with a one Amp
fuse as long as it doesn't create a problem by blowing frequently.

Fred, the GMA is about two thirds the size (length) of the 3AG, and at
RadioShack the fuses were in 4-or-5 fuse packs, so couldn't actually try the
3AG, but can't see how it would fit.

Jay-

This might be a case of an engineering design change not being picked up
by the manual writers (or the Rep), both for the fuse size and current
rating.

I have some little GMA fuses in my collection, and I see what you mean
about their possibly not fitting! You might check the metal cap that
goes over the end of the fuse, and see if it might be large enough to
accept a 1/4" X 1 1/4" 3AG. If it would, the 3AG might just fit by
compressing the spring a little further.

My Nuvi 350 PDF manual also calls for a 2 Ampere 3AG fuse. The adapter
actually has a 3AG-size fuse, but only 1 Ampere. I didn't try a GMA
fuse in mine. It is possible there might be sufficient spring length to
accommodate it, but GMA is obviously not the right size for my adapter.
