Just happened to be looking to see if I could find any way to link Microsoft
FS with Google Earth for scenery. GE has one hidden inside it already!
From inside Google Earth,
Press CTRL-ALT-A. You then get to choose between two planes and fly around
the world!! (Basic Flight Sim)

What keys start the plane. The arrow keys control direction but can't get
the plane to move :-)

You can use the mouse to go up/down/left/right. I use the mouse and
watch the symbols in the center of the screen, and I watch the altitude
indicator on the left to see if it is increasing/decreasing. If you are
in a rapid descent and pull the mouse back/down will start to rise
although it does take some time to actually slow the descent. Watch the
altimeter on the left.

Doesn't need BETA, just latest version. ONLY appears in the Tools menu
AFTER you have run it once from the keyboard shortcut.

afaict you can't select which version you want anyway - you just take
what they send you. Last night I d'ld a new one because the one I was
using was 2 years old, and it was the beta version.

Was getting a bit frustrated by this - having downloaded umpteen versions of
Google Earth in the last two days...
.... however - finally got the version above working, by hitting CTRL+A,
rather than the advertised key sequence!
(Sure enough, it appears in the tools menu as ctrl+ALT+A, but that doesn't
work (for me) - on two different PC's).
Possibly a UK keyboard issue?

| For me too CTRL + ALT + A depresssed i n that sequence or
simultaneously did nothing but when I did CTRL + A + ALT in that
sequence it worked. Very strange that the key order was critical.

Compared to a simulator program the controls are wanting, but the
scenery is great! If you are using a keyboard, turn off NUM lock and
use the number keys. The 5 key levels off the ailerons and elevation
controls.

Works for me as CTRL+A here in NY also.

Addendum:
Actually, BOTH work. CTRL+ALT+A brings me to the FS startup screen where I
can choose my aircraft, etc. CTRL+A brings me to the startup screen the
first time I use it but after that skips the startup screen and returns me
to the last screen I was on when I exited FS.

CTRL+ALT+P is a different function than Flight Simulator. It's called Play
Tour.

| After reading this, I uploaded the latest Google Earth freeware on WinXP
and hit Control ALT A which brought up an SR22 and an F16 as choices.
The same sequence exited the Google Earth Flight Simulator.
I had trouble controlling the airplane until I found the following settings
by QWERTY keyboard trial and error.
I'd start at Moffett Field at runway R32 heading 320 degrees.
http://maps.google.com/?q=37.406420....04305827617645
The comma & period controlled my left & right brake respectively.
- The C centered both the ailerons and the rudders.
- LeftBracket and RightBracket controlled the flaps.
- PageUp and PageDown controlled the throttle.
- UpArrow and DownArrow controlled the elevators.
Once airborne:
- G retracted the landing gear.
- Shift F retracted the flaps.
- LeftArrow and RightArrow controlled the ailerons.
- Shift LeftArrow and Shift RightArrow controlled the rudders.
When I got out of control,
- Spacebar paused the simulation so I could catch my breath.
- The h toggled the heads up display on and off.
- Alt LeftArrow and Alt RightArrow turned the pilot's head.
To land,
- G extended the landing gear.
- The f key extended the flaps.
- Simultaneously pressing comman & period braked to a halt.

At the start up screen, if you would have clicked on the HELP button you get
the complete list of controls on the keyboard. Could have saved yourself a
lot of time. :-)
Happy flying!!!

Ok I finally figured out how to get flight simulater to work on my
windows xp home sp2. When I opened up google earth and had mouse arrow
inside google earth and clicked control + alt + A nothing happened but
when I held down right side mouth button while pushing control alt A
it opened up the flight simulater and can see it in under tools now.
Now any time I want to use flight simulater I don't have to hold right
mouse button down. Just hit control alt A and works every time now. No
one mentioned about holding down right mouth button the very first
time you use the simulater. Hope others can use it with my
instructions.

My reply above I meant to say mouse buttons not mouth. Oh well I get
to use the simulater now.

The flight simulator is pretty cool and can sure can be used many
different ways with all the keyboard shortcuts mentioned in previous
posts. Am tired of flying now and all you have to do is click on exit
flight simulator to stop it. Am going to bed now while I can still
spell correctly.
