Street Pilot III Question

| I realize that a newer unit is in order - but for now, will the SPIII
do a "track-back"?
Here's the situation. I plugged in a route from Mapsource, and sent
my (directionally challenged) wife off on a trip. To keep her in more
or less familiar territory, I had to use two Via Points between Home
and destination, because Mapsource seemed determined to route her
another way (longer, but I suppose faster). Anyway, when she's ready
to return home, is there a way that she can retrace the route she
took? I've been through the owner's manual in detail with no luck,
and Googled this group using several different phrases - with no luck.
TIA,
Mark

I have SP III for many years but never care to use the feature myself. But
I believe that SP III allows you to create the ROUTE then save to SP III
unit.
And I believe that you have to SAVE to SP III *not* data card. Or you
will have to create the ROUTE using MapSource then some option to save to
SP-III which I never done to know more detail.
After you SAVED the route, there is an option (MENU) display the list of
routes and you just select the right one and it won't lead your wife to the
neighbor <bg>

Joel is correct.. I do this all the time
Let say you going from Home to Wallmart via a drawbridge
(as you said, the via is needed otherwise the program will give you a
different route)
So now I have three waypoints, home, drawbridge, and Wallmart
I select create a new route , insert Home, insert Drawbridge, and finally
insert Wallmart. Hit recalculate, give it a name like HTOW (Home to
Wallmart).
Now click "Invert" then recalculate, save this as WTOH (Wallmart to Home)
Connect your SP III serially, send to device, and remove the checkmark from
"Maps"and check waypoint and routes. This sends it to the unit.
Simply pick the route on the unit and execute it.
I have an SP III for many years and never care for how it handle routes.
What I normally would do is (using the above as an example), select "Find"
then Waypoint and highlight "Drawbridge" and navigate to it. When I am sure
I will no longer be rerouted through some other route I don't want (i.e.
drawbridge approaching is imminent), I simply hit roue and stop the current
nav. Now I will repeat the procedure, except selecting "Wallmart" as the
waypoint. Ging home, just reverse the procedure.

Thanks for the good info.
Unfortunately she was already on the road when I asked the question.
I think I can talk her through enough of the key sequences to get her
home (heavy use of the owner's manual).
Thanks again,
Mark
