Creating route on 60CSX
|

| Normally I create my route with Mapsource or MemoryMap, decided to try
to do it direct on my 60CSX while at home. The problem I have is it
starts the route from my home, irrespective of whether I have GPS off or
on. I have deleted all waypoints beforehand, still starts my route from
home. What I wish to be able to do is sit in, say my hotel at A, then
create routes from X to Y to Z or wherever, is this possible please? If
so how?

IF you are at home of course he start from home, but if you move to X, he
starts your route from X. So wath is the problem?

Use the cursor to place waypoints at x, y, and z. Then go to the route
page, choose New, and make a route with those waypoints in it in the
order you want to visit them (do not put a waypoint for home in the
route).
When you activate the route, it will give you a heading to the first
waypoint listed in the route and will process down the listed waypoints
in order.
I've not messed with it yet, but if you go to the Satellite page and
turn the GPS receiver off, pressing Menu give you the Use with GPS Off
option. If you then press Menu again and choose New Location (it will
not be ghosted out), you can use your cursor to "place" your receiver in
a different location. With that done, you can use Find, Waypoints, your
cursor, or one of the routes on the Route page to start a route from the
cursor selected location.
And you can demo drive the routes too but it does it by simulating the
real time driving speed for the roads involved and is really sloooooow!
to watch.
If there is a way to set you speed up to about 300 MPH or so I'd like to
know what it is.

When in DEMO mode (setup->system->gps = demo mode), go to the
Compass page and setup a data field for speed.
Rocker up or down increases or decreases speed by 10 mph
(or appropriate units).

Thanks, Dan. I tried that and it works but sort of erratically.
I was able to get the speed up to as much as 126 MPH or similar speeds.
But a second or two after I quit pressing up cursor, it would reset
itself back to speeds that were appropriate for the road in use.
My 2610 has a similar, undocumented feature, involving some strokes on
the touchscreen on the trip computer page, that works in a similar
erratic manner.
I'd consider the feature to be of little use as far as increasing the
speed of a route demo. Has that been your experience with it too?

I don't really have much experience with demo mode. The few times
I've set the speed (on a 76Cx and some of the b&w 76 series),
I've never seen the speed reset.
As I write this, the 76Cx is set to 340 mph and the map
is scrolling along, so after many seconds, it hasn't
reset the speed.
I almost always have topo. maps enabled and street maps
disabled. I'm thinking that perhaps demo will change the speed
to the maximum allowed for a road causing the reset you
are seeing.
I've switched to Metroguide road maps and the speed is still
340 mph (map has gone blank - I must have entered Canada).
"Lock on Road" is off on my receiver. Maybe it takes that
setting too.
