Author Files on the Garmin Nuvi 680

I am getting confused and hopefully someone can straighten me out. There is
a lot of discussion about the different upload programs such as MapSource,
G7towin, etc and the file extension for the different items such as map,
POIs, etc.

With the Nuvi 680, this all seems to have changed: POI have an extension of
*.ddb, not .cvs, maps have *.img and *.bin, not .gpx as best i can tell. So,
i am not sure that these upload programs still work or are they doing file
conversions along the way before uploading to the 680.

If so, how does one get *.img and *.ddb files to load via Win Explorer to
use?

any help would be appreciated

Thanks

On the _Nuvi 650_ I played with for a friend, I determined there to be
a folder \gpx which had 1 single file of type gpx. Using GPSU, I
opened the waypoint file from my various units (I keep it in Mapsource
..gdb format for various reasons) and saved it (edited) as a .gpx which
I then copied to the gpx folder. Upon power up, mine disappeared, but
it's waypoints were added to theirs.

I _SUSPECT_ that to delete you must use the Nuvi.

It would be helpful for you to post the directory and file structure;
knowledge is power.

Yes the *.csv is the oldest interchange format
....and compatible with most database and spreadsheet programs
.......i am very disappointed that this format is no longer supported
..........i think garmin is getting wierd
..............it might be to best to avoid their products
