Author Should I buy this Garmin Nuvi 350 Display unit?

My Best Buy store has a Garmin nuvi 350 for $97.95. I made an excuse, so
they are holding it for one day.
* Cosmetically it is pristine. (this was supposedly a second display unit
they never put on display)
* Took it out side and ran every test I could think off. This is my forth
Garmin. All worked well and quickly.
* It comes with a dash mount instead of the window mount. This is ok since
that is how my c250 is mounted.
* It has a longer version then the stock demo when you turn it on. Didn't
see a way to turn it off in the menu.
* There is no second number on a colored piece paper that I understand is
need for registering it. The sale will be final no return.
* Everything else is in the box that should be.

The Garmin phone number is busy every time I call. I have until Sunday 17:30
January 12, 2008

Deal or No Deal
Thanks

Why do you make such a problem out of this?

You can get the registration number from Garmin by faxing (Phone
800-800-1020 or Fax 913-440-5488) or emailing to techsupp@garmin.com, the
sales receipt and serial number to them. I had to do this with a 350 I
bought at AAFES that didn't have it in it either. May have been a return,
but everything else was still in what appeared to original wrappers, so I
think they just forgot to include it with many of them.

Once you register it, you will be able to order the latest map version for
free*

John

* For 'Mortimer Schnerd, RN', this is what I mean by reading and following
directions. You have to register it to get the free map.

At 100 dollars, even a Garmin nüvi 350 would seem worth it.

Bear in mind the serious and less serious flaws though.
- No tracks
- No multiple vias
- No routing from the computer
- No QWERTY keyboard
- No map CDs
- No bluetooth
- No FM transmitter
- No ability to remmove useless buttons
- No single click solution to shortest or fastest route
- No universal back button to take you directly to the map

What model has all of those features at a sensible price?

I'm a little concerned with your above comment.

Makes me wonder if it is not quite a normal 350. What else is different?
Might it go back into demo-loop mode when not touched for a while? Can it
do normal routing over time, or again, might it jump back to demo mode?

No big deal if you were able to return it, but since you can't ????

Something positive? Only negative thinking people would hesitate at that
price and ask complete strangers for advice.

I love my Garmin Nuvi 350. I paid much more. However, once you listed
the options below, I didn't even realize how much it was lacking. wow.

The Nuvi is aimed at the majority of people who want a device to get them
from point A to point B with a bare minimum of fuss. Those people generally
won't care about any of this stuff. $97.95 is a great deal. Garmin has
excellent customer support and will take care of any problems even if BB
won't take it back.

Interesting because the Best Buy webstore shows them selling for
US$561.97 today 1/12/2008. If you paid US$97.95 you got a super deal!

That price includes the friction mount and travel guide. The standard unit
is $399 and readily available at that price. Still, 97 is a good deal.

The 2820, Quest II, and zumos are models that have some or all of the
mentioned features. I'm not certain about all of them as named below,
I've marked "yes" for the that I know are included:

yes - No tracks
yes - No multiple vias
yes - No routing from the computer
?? - No QWERTY keyboard
yes - No map CDs
yes - No bluetooth (yes = 2820, Quest II is no I think)
?? - No FM transmitter
?? - No ability to remmove useless buttons
yes (I think) - No single click solution to shortest or fastest route
?? - No universal back button to take you directly to the map

imho, for road use, these flaws are minor annoyances. I can get there,
get fed, and get a room. Not bad...

Thanks. While they have the features, they are priced considerably more.

I wish I could find a Nuvi 350 for $100. I'd buy two more. I love mine,
have all the options. Great for me. As I stated prior, these options
below might be useful, but I never had them so don't miss them. :*)
