Topo question on Datums
|
|
| Steve Calvin 2008-01-14, 10:33 pm |
| I'm looking for a topo for our property and surrounding area
to use in combo with my 76CSx. I can set the CSx for NAD27
or many other datums including NAD83.
In theory, the NAD83 format should be more accurate, but....
Does anyone have any experience with both formats and
recommendations?

When you say "I'm looking for a topo for our property", do you mean
you are looking for a topo map of the property? If yes, then when you
find one that you want to navigate by, you should set your gps to
whatever datum is indicated on the map.
On what basis do you make this statement "the NAD83 format should be
more accurate"?

Yes, I understand that the datum specifications on the paper map have
to match what the gps has.
I'm wondering which NAD format would be better to get, 27 or 83. One
of the intents of remapping 27 to 83 was supposed to be better
accuracy. I was inquiring if anyone knew of any advantages of 83 over
27.
Here's one source on the accuracy issue, I was inquiring about some
practical experiences.
