Author Firmware update from satellites???

Hi all,

Updating from the satellites doesn't seem likely but I can't figure
out what happened.

Tuesday, 22JAN08, around 4:30pm I was driving through Portland, ME
when my Nuvi 200 had a gray screen pop up that said updating
firmware. It took about 30 seconds to complete.

I just checked to see if I had the latest version at Garmin on
Sunday.

Has anyone else seen this or know what happened?

Thanks,

Frank

Never had that happen to me, my upgrades come from a usb connection on my
computer.
I guess anything is possible. My directv receiver gets it's upgrades from
satellite.

guys - read up on GPS basics -
the sats merely generate extremely accurate time pulses,
and the GPS receiver does all the work to triangulate where it is in
physical space.
It's not like TV :)

The satellites do transmit data including their position in the form of
orbital parameters. The GPS receiver needs to know the satellites position
to compute your position. It's not really triangulation either but rather a
time difference of arrival algorithm.

They don't transmit firmware updates though. That sounds like a software
bug.
