| Just a note to say I had a strange problem with a brand new Vista HCx
last week. After random period, ranging from a few minutes to as much as
14 hours, the display would freeze and the buttons become unresponsive.
I had to take the batteries out to recover.
I tried reinstalling the firmware, tried different batteries and even
removed the microSD card. Nothing made any difference. It would always
lock up if I waited long enough. They're sending me a replacement unit
tomorrow. Hopefully there will be no problems this time.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem with any of
the H series Etrex.
Cheers,
Angus

Angus, I just received a Etrex Vista HCl and I am having the same
problem. I also contacted support and they gave me a link to download
the software 2.40. Did, no good. I had put in a 512 sd card and
thought it might have been the problem, took it out, same. Don't know
what else to do. Guess I will go back to support or send it back to
Amazon.

Robert, I have a Garmin Vista also and it freezes up all the time. If
you hold the power button in for a while it will finally shut off then
turn it back on. I'm going to contact Garmin after the holidays. Scott

I am also having the same issue. I already sent my first unit back,
but then the new unit they sent me does the same thing! I searched
the poor reviews on Amazon and no one mentioned this issue. Am I that
unlucky that I got two in a row which have this issue? Did getting a
new unit fix the issue for others?
Thanks

I've been using a Vista HCx since Sept. and it has
never locked up (crashed).
They may have changed something in manufacturing
that has caused a problem.
The geocaching forums are very active. A problem
with Vista HCx's crashing doesn't seem to be
a common problem.

Mine's been faultless since purchase in August. European basemap,
but same hardware presumably. Running latest firmware, even the
updates have been no problem. Solid as a rock.

Can you be sure they sent a new unit? I sent one back and they
checked for the wrong problem, found no problem and returned the same
unit. I had to re-send it to them. The sent me a new unit the second
time and they paid shipping both ways.
