| i'm i pissed with garmin today! i have a c320 and a 60csx which both worked fine with the 2007 maps for australia.
received the 2008 maps for aus last week and installed it on the c320 and got the unlock code without any problems. installed the '08 maps on the 60csx and no way can i get the maps unlocked. email of to garmin to find out whats up. their reply as follow:
I apologize for the inconvenience but starting with the 2008 maps you are only allowed to unlock the maps to one unit. This is due to a change in the royalties that we pay per copy of the maps. You are able to unlock an additional unit by purchasing an update for that unit. Once again I'm sorry for the confusion on this issue.

Your MapSource unlock code is valid for use with your own Garmin GPS unit. A separate unique unlock code is needed for each GPS unit. If you own more than one GPS unit or upgrade to a new GPS unit, you will need a separate code for each GPS unit. If you personally own two Garmin GPS units, you are allowed to obtain a second unlock code for the same region for your own personal use at no additional charge. Simply repeat the unlock process for the second unit. No more than two GPS units may be unlocked with the purchase of a single unlock code. A new unlock code must be purchased if you have already unlocked two GPS units. For specific questions about the unlock process, please see our Unlock FAQs.

You have every right to be pissed because when you bought your GPSes they
were under different agreement (up to 2 GPSes), and they just changed to
Single GPS policy few months ago.

The single GPS receiver policy went into effect July 1, 2007.

I know and that's why I said they just changed few months ago. Or I meant
the OP bought and agreed with the OLDER agrrement (the unlock code for @
units).

Might want to keep in mind that upgrades (at least for CN NA) were available
from third party retail sources for less than Garmin's price.
Don't know about other than CN NA. I think the 2008 version of CN Europe is
out, but haven't seen pricing. In fact, it's a bit strange since I have
earlier version of CN Europe, but the Garmin upgrade process shows no upgrades
available for them.

I haven't bought any update but I sure know about 3rd party years ago.
Example, the Mapsourse TOPO 2008 I read Garmin sells for around $100 when
you can get from Amazon or others for around $50 with *free* S/H.

I am not from Europe so I don't know what v2008 is, but I read v9 was
released over a year ago (or close to 2 years?). I rarely check Garmin site
as it doesn't have much detail information buyer would like to see.

Glad to hear your own situation worked out, but that isn't really the
point IMO - it's the way they're shafting their customers to begin
with.
You bought your unit (as did I) with one licence arrangement in place,
only to find that policy "replaced" without official notification (i'm
on their mailing list).

The hardware and software are 2 seprate entities. Just because they came
bundled together doesn't mean they are 1 and the same.
The license agreement that applies to the version for the software that came
in your bundle still applies, to that version of software. If you want to
buy new software, it has different terms.
There's nothing to "notify" as nothing has changed in regards to the
software that came with the unit.
I agree it's a real bummer that the extra we got previously (an extra map
unlock) is no longer included, but it's not quite a "shafting" nor a change
to the license arrangement that applies to the version of software you
already have.

Months ago, about 1-2 months before the new policy started, Garmin made a
stupid excuse saying that the reason they change from "unlock code for 2
units" to "one unit" because very few people requested for 2nd unit.
Yes, it's true, I have 4 Garmin GPSes but don't use newer map on older
unit, so I never requested for 2nd unlock code. But that doesn't give them
the right to abuse the agreement we agreed on.

mmmm.... good question.
i can only speak from my experience but no, there doesn't seem to be any
changes for here in central qld.
i've been living in my house for 2 years and the previous owner was there
for 2 and it's still not on the map. the street is though. on the
Gladstone-Benaraby road is a roundabout for +/-2 years which still shows as
an t-junction. there might be more. i've onlyhad the 08 maps for less than
a month, will check to see if there is any more "mismaps"
on the cover it said "now includes the Sydney lane cove tunnel" so you
might need that. in future i will only do updates every 2 or 3 years

Short answer NO.
Very little changes to all the gross errors. The Sensis (Telstra) map is a
rip-off at Garmin prices but worth having for say $A20.
I wonder if there are as many errors in the USA versions?

And because Garmin doesn't respect their own policy agreement, I think
it's illegal for Garmin to break their own policy agreement between Garmin
and customers. So, I have no support for Garmin on this one, and kinda glad
to see a working Keygen available (cuz I am too pissed <bg> )

I don't have v7 to know the difference, but I don't think there is much
difference between 2007 vs 2008. Or all the maps are pretty much the same
except the newer version may have some newer routes, but very few.
Since Garminhas reduced the upgrade price from around $130 to $75, and you
may be able to find lower price from some third party so it isn't too bad.
But I would continue to use 2007 version and upgrade to the 2009 version
instead.

I can't tell much between Map and Nuvi which one causes most errors, but I
can see with City Navigator 2008
- Quite afew 2-4+ years old houses/streets are not yet available. Much
better than my older v4.x, but still not up to date.
- I don't travel much (especially in the winter months), but I have run into
quite a few decades old *main* streets of some city are off or pointing to
wrong direction (turn LEFT instead of RIGHT).
- I upgraded to Nuvi 680 from the old StreetPilot III and I can see the Nuvi
has much less information than the old StreetPilot. And sometime I feel
like it give more/less detail information whenever it feels like. Example
- Couple months ago I traveled across few states, and I saw Nuvi displayed
"WATER" color of some manufacture with pond about 2-3 blocks long, and
Nuvi even displayed a small "drainage ditches" across the hi-way to a
smaller pond on other side of hi-way
- But not the big/long Missouri river, yup! a brige across Missouri River
but Nuvi doesn't say anything. Sometime it displays golf course of one
place but not other.
Yes, I do like the Nuvi and also disappoint because it's lacking of some
useful features comparing to the old StreetPilot III.

| The only problem I have is that the two Garmin units I have use two different versions of the maps. The C330 uses NT maps, while the IQue3600 uses non NT maps, so I really can't unlock the 2008 maps to my two units - unlesws I'm missing something.

I was not following this too closely but by going to the above URL I
found that it says:
"The unlock process allows us to provide you with only the map data
you need at a lower cost. What if you want to navigate in another
offshore area that’s not covered in the region you selected"
The offshore thing makes me think this policy may be for marine data
only.

That is exactly right, however little known it may be. If you go to the
BlueChart Americas page and click on the Unlock Policy link:
http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/...icas.jsp#unlock
Then click on the link for "Click here for more information about the
unlock process":
http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/...rtAmericas.jsp#
Included there is the statement "If you personally own two Garmin GPS
units, you are allowed to obtain a second unlock code for the same
region for your own personal use at no additional charge", but that only
applies to BlueChart.
You simply have to gather all the pieces of the puzzle, absorb the
implications of the explanations phrased in a somewhat "lawyer speak"
manner. That is, of course, the BlueChart puzzle and not to be confused
with the City Navigator puzzle to which the two unlocks policy no longer
applies.

In New Zealand, the changes from CN v2 to CN v3 were, simply BAD! Lots of
POIs incorrectly placed made finding FUEL stations terrible. No changes to
State Highways which had been moved...
Deluxe 20008 however has the correct roads now. I would like it on BOTH my
Nuvis, instead of just one.
