Author Garmin with PC mapping & solves travelling salesman routing

In my work I often go to a number of different places each day; some I
know the way, others I would like to incorporate into the route for the
day.

I can imagine sorting out the route on a pc/laptop in the morning then
downloading the route to the GPS/sd card/usb stick.

Is there a sat nav product that will do this sort of thing?

In the current models, the StreetPilot 2820, the Quest II, and the zumos
(450 and 550) will do that and also come with the mapping on DVD for the
PC installation.

The nuvi 660 will do a half-assed or mediocre job of some of what you
want to do but not all of it. Don't let anyone selling them convince
you otherwise.

If you buy a refurbished Garmin StreetPilot 2610 or 2720 that will also
do the job for you and will be a lot cheaper than one of the new ones
mentioned above ($200 or so for a refurbished 2610 for example).

The refurbs come with the same one year warranty as the new ones, cannot
be told from a new unit (show no signs of wear or use), and come with
all the same accessories as were originally supplied.

If you buy a refurb, you can check to see if one you buy has City
Navigator North American 2008 included with it (the current version).
Sometimes they will have the previous version if they have been on the
shelf for a while. However, if you do get one with the previous version
(City Navigator North America V8) you can always get an update to the
current version from Garmin for a bout $75 (or a little less at the best
street prices).

If we all quit buying the newer, dumbed down, Garmin models, maybe
Garmin will put all the navigation features back into their GPS
receivers and come up with "introductory user" and "advanced user" modes
or something like that.

did you see the prices?

People aren't going to spend $1000 for a 2820.

I know what you mean but some will, some won't.

I'm not a big spender as a retiree. But I do some seasonal work that
has brought me enough money to pay for me GPS "habit". The GPS helps in
the work and really wouldn't want to do it without it.

If I was in business or had a business where I had to dispatch a number
of people to numerous and repetitive destinations, you can bet your
bippy I'd have a bunch of 2610's or something like that. And you
wouldn't be working for me if you couldn't use it.

And I'll bet the GPS receiver would have paid for themselves after some
period of time.
