| Just purchased a 76CSx and my question is....
I have Mapsource CNNT 2008 already installed on my laptop for my 2720. I
know I would need a unlock code for the new unit..... can I just use the
unlock code to unlock the maps to the new unit ( 2 gig Micro SD) without
loading the new DVD. Hope this sounds logical. as I do not wish to screw up.
Thanks, Bob

If you can get Garmin to give you the second unlock code either by
telephone, email, or the Internet, you can do that.
A call to Garmin at 1 800 800 1020 might sort it all out. Have your
uninstalled copy and the key code or coupon code handy when you call.
At the end of the unlock process, regardless of how it is accomplished,
you have to have entered a 25 character unlock codes into your MapSource
installation for both GPS receivers in order to get the uploaded maps to
work on the GPS receivers. So the situation is that you have one unlock
code there now and need a second.
More minutiae.
MapSource will upload maps to any GPS receiver (or a card in the
receiver or in a reader) without first verifying that you have an unlock
code. So you'd be smart to test the unlocks with small uploads before
doing a big upload.
The uploaded supplemental map image files may work in either or both GPS
receivers, allowing you to upload to one and then upload a copy of that
to the other. It looks like the uploaded image file can contain all the
unlock codes you have for a given product.
The MapSource Unlock Wizard will back your unlock codes up to a file and
can recover them from there. You can look at the files with a text
editor and, by comparing that to the unlock code as displayed from its
properties, copy and paste the unlock codes into new installs that the
codes where not previously part of.
This whole thing sort of goes on and on and there is little or no
documentation about it. I'm not talking about cheating or anything,
just the complexities of life in dealing with multiple GPS receivers,
multiple MapSource products, and multiple unlock codes.

Thanks again Jack, have dealt with the Garmin complexities since my first
Color Map. Even with all of that I have been quite happy with all.
