Sorry just posted this by mistake on Tom Tom newsgroup
I have the above 250W and am wondering if I can get USA maps from anywhere
else apart from Garmin, I think they about £130 or is that dollars?. I
realise it must cost a fair bit for the size of the US but it is expensive.
Any ideas?

unbelievable.com are quoting 255 euros incl. 21% VAT plus shipping for
CN NA NT, so 130 GBP appears cheap. But given Amazon are selling 250Ws
with full Europe mapping for 148 GBP it's dear.

If you're going to the US, probably cheaper to go into a supermarket
there and pick up an end of line unit with mapping - or upgrade to a
770T with EU and US mapping for 310 GBP.

Obvious GPSs have gone the way of razors - give away the unit and make
the profit on the blades (maps).

Search for Garmin City Navigator North America on eBay, ensure the
results are displaying all overseas sellers, and check out what J&M
Gizmos have available at "Buy it now" prices. Currently charging
$105.95 + $26.95 shipping for the NT version; they also have, or have
had recently, the SD card and the non-NT versions at the same price.
Cost me =A367.73 in total using my Nationwide credit card charged in US$
on PayPal. My sealed new copy arrived yesterday, a week after
ordering, to supplement the version with GPS18 I got a week earlier
from the same place. Bizarrely this was slightly cheaper than the map
by itself, but it's all on the one DVD and only unlocks to nRoute for
GPS18 use. It is not possible to purchase extra unlock codes for 2008
maps either through Garmin.com (the option is greyed out) or from
Garmin UK over the phone.

A peculiarity of the United States Postal Service airmail is that it
seems to pass through Mount Pleasant without anyone noticing the
correctly-filled-out customs declaration (or have I just been lucky
three times in a row? - my Legend Cx came the same way last year) so
ParcelForce deliver it (signature required) without asking for any
duty/VAT.
