I have a Garmin 12XL and a 60Cs, both used for hunting and navigating
in the woods.

Now I want a Garmin automotive unit. But I need one that gives me the
same info as my backwoods units. Specifically, I need:

1. MGRS as well as the traditional longitude/latitude.

2. Ability to save any location, whether on a street or not. I have a
Navigon 2100 and it won't allow me to save a location that's not on a
street.

3. Portable to anywhere, so I can drive to a parking lot and hike all
day without worrying too much about batteries.

4. Maps! I need to be able to plot locations on a software map and
transfer it to the GPS...much like my 60Cs.

5. "Learn" a new route and save it. I like to travel a side road but
my Navigon keeps telling me to go left to get on the main road, which
is full of trucks! The unit will not "learn" this side route.

For $119, my Navigon 2100 is very very decent...but it is severly
limited in the extra things I need. But some of you folks have been
talking about $70 updates? and MapSource is extra?

Maybe I should just stick with my Navigon? It's a great little unit
that does what it says it does...very well made, TTS, and extremely
affordable. I don't want to spend $500 on a Garmin and then a few
months later and update comes out! (I did that with my 60Cs before
the Csx came out...grrrr >:-(

The Garmin Quest has voice prompted car navigation (non-TTS though) with the
other features you mention. Waterproof, 20 hour battery life - under $300
including City Navigator maps and Mapsource on a DVD.
