No, that does not actually import the maps, it just imports a list of
the names of the maps (aka segments) that are in the supplemental map
file on the GPS.

How can I delete the maps on my Nuvi 200 and reload them with Mapsource?

You can puchase Mapsource from Garmin with the Maps. They may give you
one copy for free and load the maps from the CD into the PC. You
cannot load maps from the Nuvi to the PC, but you can load new maps
from the PC to the Nuvi.

The preloaded nuvis have a large file in the main memory that is the map
file. It is locked to your receiver by the Unit I.D. and won't work
anywhere else nor can you change or update the file from MapSource.
I can't recall the name of that file but it ends in *.img. That file is
locked to that GPS receiver and if you delete or overwrite that, you
will have rendered your GPS stupid (as far as mapping) and it will make
a nice paperweight.
To upgrade that pre-installed mapping you need to order an up DVD from
Garmin that is intended specifically for updating preloaded GPS
receivers such as the nuvi.
If you are using supplemental mapping, you can replace or change that
file. The file will be named gmapsupp.img and it might be in a \garmin
folder on a SD card if you have one. Or it might be in the main memory
of the nuvi.
In any case, when you upload a supplemental map to the nuvi from
MapSource, it will overwrite the existing gmapsupp.img file (if there is
one) and replace it with a new file with the same name.

My PC explorer shows that as gmapprom.img

OK, I deleted the gmapsupp.img file but the map still shows the Canadian
main highways, and the map info screen still shows the City Navigator North
America NT 2008 "check box" selection.
What I want to do is put the 200 in it's origonal map condition (US only)
when I bought it. Suggestions?

CNNA NT 2008 is not just United States mapping, it is North American
mapping, including the Canadian highways. And that is what your nuvi
probably came preloaded with. As far as I know there is no such thing
as "US only" mapping for you to restore to.

Yes there is. Some of the less expensive nuvi's have 48/US, HI and PR
only maps in them. No AK or Canada.

That is correct. My Nuvi 200 only had US/HI/PR installed out of the box.

If I install City Navigator North America NT as a supplimental map on the
storage card vs. the pre-installed maps will the Nuvi 200 default to which
is the latest version? I'm curious as to what happens when I upgrade to the
2009 map version.
Also, the Canadian maps from NA NT 2008 only show the major roads, not the
street detail the US maps have. Is this normal? My Garmin Mobile XT maps
on my PocketPC are detailed for Canada, but the one on the Nuvi is not.
I'm trying to understand how the Nuvi works, and appreciate your inputs.

I stand corrected. I guess those are the ones that did not have enough
memory for the full load.

Thats odd behaviour. The Canadian Maps in City Navigator North America
2008 are quite detailed, as were the previous couple of versions. Not to
say they are perfect, but to give you an example, my hometown of 3000
people shows all the streets and has a decent amount of details regarding
restaurants, schools, gas stations, etc. My Nuvi 350 out of the box had
similar levels of detail. Mine was purchased in July 2007 and I got the
upgrade cd to 2008 a couple months ago which I installed over the original
and I'd say there is even more detail now.

Not sure but probably not. You would probably need to go to the menu and
shut of the old maps.

No. City Navigator maps for Canada and US have similar detail.

| If you go to my.garmin.com, you can register your device, you will get then
much needed 25 digit key.
Then download City navigator Europe NT 2008 here:
