Dear hello,

When connecting the power-supply which is not an original (car)
adoptercable from Garmin,
the NUVI goes standard into the PC upload mode
( like you have the Nuvi connected via an USB cable to your
computer ).
In this mode it is not possible to use the navigator function or other
functions of the Nuvi.

This mode can easily avoided by a modification on the mini-usb
connector.

Try to buy a new mini-usb connector.

Connect only the plus and the minus pins AND the X pin with a 15 K
resistor to minus.

When a mini usb is not aviable, buy a USB to mini-usb computer cable,
cut the =B4computer=B4USB connector off and use the mini-usb and the
remaining cable to connect the Nuvi.
Mostly the mini-usb are =B4molded=B4connecto
rs and it takes a bit of
patience and time too to get the non connected X pin free for
soldering.
Soldering of this pin is a very preciese job and you have to be
carefull not to burn the entire connector.
When the job is done and you connect the Nuvi, you get the first time
an alert which shows you =A8this function is not aviable =A8, Press DONE
or OK.

Your Nuvi will work fine without any original supply cable.

Be care with this job and be sure the voltage you supply is 5 Volt.

Or you could connect the USB cable to the power socket on the back of the
nüvi instead of the data socket on the side.

SO - the Nuvi has TWO mini-USB connectors ?
the one on the back - to act as a power only connector ?
the one on the side - as a power & PC data connection ?
