I am trying to learn how the nuvi 660 functions.

I want to use some form of a workaround on the 660 to compensate for it
only having a single via point. I have read the manual and mapsource
manual. Lets say I want to a one day (12 hour) trip using the following
route.

Home N 34.593610, W 92.599090

ZZ1 N 35.152618, W 90.143423

ZZ2 N 30.479450, W 90.489640

ZZ3 etc

Dest. N 30.342517, W 87.313979

Is the following approach correct (if I understand what I am reading)?

Home will already be in Favorites. I then enter in ZZ1 through ZZn as
Favorites as well. Once that is done, I create a route from Home to Dest.
with the one allowed stop being ZZ1. Once I reach that location, I change
the stop from ZZ1 to ZZ2 (and so on down the road).

I see in the manual how to enter in the stop before the final destination.
I do not see how to replace ZZ1 with ZZ2 after reaching the ZZ1 location.
How do I do that?

Is the above approach the "best" way to do the route?

On Googlemaps one can drag/drop portions of routes to force them to go
through a certain location. I do not really need specific stops. However, I
want my route to go through those points. I want to be able to modify the
route to use the roads that I want. Does a way to accomplish that using
mapsource or editing the generated route on the 660 exist?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Mike,

I see you plan to use the technique I published in my
article

YES VIRGINIA, THERE IS MORE THAN ONE VIA POINT AVAILABLE
- Sort of ...

on the Garmin n=FCvi GPS Tricks, Tips, Work Arounds, Hints,
Secrets and Ideas

=46rom what you wrote, I think you have the right idea --
using THE IDENTIFIER (The ZZ Technique): to create your
'pass-through points' and going from point to point.

The suggestion I would make is to forget about entering
your final destination and stick with just going from point
to point. That is assuming that you made your points as
ZZ1,..., ZZ(x) as Favorites; start your trip going to ZZ1.
When you get there, then set your destination as ZZ2 etc.

When you reach each destination your n=FCvi will end the
route and to get your next destination will be easy by just
going to the main menu > tapping Where to? > Favorites >
Spell > 'ZZ' > Done > and selecting the appropriate next ZZ
point.

You don't need your final destination until you passed
through your 'next to last' point.

Do it just like the ZZ technique that I discussed in the
article.

Now I would do it slightly different and follow my 'The
Recent Method' that is in the same article. I find it much
faster and easier to use while driving. It does take a
little preparation in advance of the trip but while you are
establishing your ZZ points it is very quick to just add
the 'Go' to your actions which would place all your ZZs in
the Recently Found folder.

I hope that this helps.

It would be nicer if our n=FCvis had saved routes like other
Garmins have.

Indeed it is based on your comments -- Now that I have used them, I have a
better appreciation of their value.

Thank you kindly for posting those tips. They are very useful.

I did not do the recently found technique and did just change my
intermediate stop. The only advantage I see to doing that is it still gives
me a rough idea of the distance and time to my final destination.

I do like the idea of recently found. Makes it faster than looking through
a ton of favorites.

It really did. Thank you again.

I may give my wife the 660 and buy one with the multiple point routes. She
likes it better than the one in her RX 330.
