| Hi,
The POI file is very easy to create, just use MS excel to create
a .csv file. Search the web for the detailed information.
You have two ways to save places not on the map:
1. POI, 2. My Favorite

| tnx - we found this page and have been reading...
http://www.gpsinformation.org/penro.../poiloader.html
lastly - how do we connect the Garmin 260 to our laptop ?
Does a normal USB to mini-usb cable work ?
There have been a few thread here about USB cables
and which ones work or don't - for just power vs power + transfer.
After connecting the 260, and bringing up the Garmin POI loader,
does the 260 just appear as a standard USB drive for copying files ?

And use the free POI Loader program available on the Garmin web site. You
and either load them to an SD card, or directly to the 260 with a USB
cable. The basic instructions are included with the program.

Yes, or you can load the POI data onto an SD card, using POI Loader, and
put it in the 260. The data will be loaded into the unit from the card.

If you use the USB approach, when you connect the 260 to the computer, it
will go into program mode. The POI program is a batch program that first
looks for the Garmin unit, then presents a screen that asks if the unit
drive letter has been identified correctly. You might have to point to it
if it wasn't found automatically. You then click GO, and the data is
uploaded in a couple of seconds.
