| I note that Magellan gives the operating low temperature of the Explorist
400-600 as 14 degrees F. However, these models use an Li-Ion battery. It
has been my experience with a certain digital camera that Li-Ion batteries
lose much of their capacity at ambient temperatures below 32 degrees F. I
have also seen that problem reported in magazines, etc., and have had
friends report similar problems with cell phones that use Li-Ion batteries.
I am considering the purchase of one of these GPS units because I like the
small size and the SD card capability. Does anyone have any experience with
using the Explorist 400-600 models in below freezing weather for extended
periods? Would it be adequate to simply keep the GPS inside your outer
jacket to warm it in such weather? Basically, if this is a problem, I'll
take another look at one of the larger models that uses AAs. Thanks for a
response.
