Meridian Gold or Explorist 400?

| GPS rookie but...
Have a gift coming next month... I've got it down to either the Meridian
Gold (32 mg) or the Explorist 400. Both aprox the same amount.
Any concerns with either... specifically, the gold has a computer cable??
whereas the 400 has USB. Is there a great difference in speed in
downloading the maps.
Would both use the same "Mapsend" software.
I have been researching a bit but I would like some opinions as to why.
Thanks, Graham

| Mapsend DirectRoute and Topo 3D would be compatible with both units.
Older Mapsend SW (Mapsend S&D and Mapsend Topo USA) are not compatible with
the explorist.
Some of the newer pre-loaded SD cards are specific for the explorist or
meridian and cannot be interchanged.

And, as a slight addition to the list, the BlueNav charts on CD-ROM are
not compatible with the eXplorists. BlueNav on CD-ROM is a discontinued
product now.
