Thanks, GB, for the tips, links and info.

The 210 will save tracks & routes to a txt file. It's in the
documentation. It's cumbersome and I wasn't real impressed. Another
software program such as mapsend would be better I imagine.

I suspect the power adapter for the other models would work. It's
just not mentioned anywhere. Maybe one of these weeks Thale will
respond to my e-mail.

<again, i'm not sure how you were going to use Wordpad with the
Explorist, but the key feature that the Mapsend software allows is the
uploading of Topo maps to your Explorist. so, instead of seeing a
rather stark screen, you'll be able to see things like contour lines,
etc.

another application would be to use the Mapsend program on your
computer to see the lay of the land, plot routes and waypoints, etc.,
then upload everything to the Explorist. as a backpacker, i think
that's worth the 65-70 bucks that they charge for the software.>

I think you're right. I think I will go with the Mapsend from the link
you sent me. Thanks.

<if you want the ultimate in freedom from fixed power sources, i'd
recommend getting rechargeable batteries, and just carrying a spare set
with you.>

I'm using NiMH batteries but was worried that they might run out as I
drove all over marking roads.

Thanks alot for your help. I appreciate the time you took to help me.

you're welcome.

the power adapter in the first link will not work with the explorist.
the connector is completely different.
