| Hi All
Received my upgrade disc, but cannot install.
I've tried on both of my computers (LAN) with the same message "No Maggelan
Roadmate unit found"
The USB connector is connected to the rear of the couputer.
No other applications are running.
Did a re-boot with nothing loaded from the start menu.
Tech service could not solve the problem and wants me to send the unit to
Tulsa for the upgrade.
I use the Magellan every day (and love it), so I don't want to go 2 weeks
without it.
When I plug the unit into the USB port and go to My Computer there is no
icon for the Magellan.
Any ideas why the computers won't recognize the Magellan?
Thanks
Harold

Mine did that the first time I tried to update.
I turned off the update software.
I powered the Magellan off, unplug the USB cable. reseated the cable
at both ends and then powered back on.
I brought up the software.
Worked.
You might try the above several times.
Good luck.

| A few shots in the dark since you seem to be stuck:
Are you running Windows 98 or Windows ME? If so, you may not have the
required USB driver installed. Go here to get it:
http://www.magellangps.com/en/suppo...orthamerica.asp
There was also an issue of USB 1.0 vs. USB 2.0 but I can't remember what it
was. Magellan Tech Support might be able to help if you jog their memory
about this issue.
If they can't help, you might try Microsoft Tech Support. As far as I know
if your system can recognize any removable USB hard drive it should
recognize the Roadmate.
You do have a PC don't you? The V5 release notes say that you have to send
Macs to them for update.

| A couple more ideas:
You may need to temporarily disable your anti-virus program and, especially,
your firewall.
If you can't get your computer to work, you might try a friend's computer.
Look for a fairly recent computer running any flavor of Windows XP.
If you didn't get your USB cable from Magellan make sure it's the right
type. I don't know much about USB cables but it's possible that they aren't
all alike.
Continue to follow Greasy's suggestions.

| Hi
Thanks for the reply.
I've tried all the below and I'm still stuck.
I have a LAN (2 computers).
One with xpPro and one with xpHome. I tried them both.
I disabled the anti-virus and the firewall.
My USB cable is from Magellan.
I was on the phone with tech support for an hour. The lady gave up and
said to send it to Tulsa. Not an option for me, I use the Magellan every
day.
I'll try my son's computer Tuesday. Maybe that will work.
Thanks again
Harold

| If you've already tried two different XP computers, it looks like a problem
with your 700 unit or, less likely, the USB cable.
Any chance you can find someone who successfully upgraded to V5 and let them
try using their computer, their USB cable and their update procedure. If
that failed it would definitely isolate the problem to your 700. So would
successfully recognizing their 700 on your computer.
If you've talked to only one tech rep, I'd call back and try another rep
before you send them your unit. That worked for me when I had a problem with
the V4 upgrade.
Sorry I can't be more help.

| Harold,
I just received my Version 5 upgrade and am getting the exact same "No
Magellan Roadmate found" message as you. Magellan customer service (I
assume in India)was clueless. Did you ever get your upgrade to install? If
so, how? Customer Service's recommendation was to "Call back another
time." I'm dreading it...
Thanks,
Mark

| To anyone who hasn't figured out the cryptic "No Magellan Roadmate Found"
message, the answer to the problem is very simple. You MUST disable your
Windows firewall AND anti-virus protection. When you do, Version 5 uploads
beautifully (about 3 hours). You can then restore all your computer
protective settings using the System Restore function via Control Panel.

....agreed and one thing that I might add. Use a rear USB port if all
else fails.
