Some nations have cameras at intersections that take photos or record
videotape of the traffic. They use that to send citations to the
registered owners of cars that run red lights.

| I suppose that if posting this listing on line makes those who have a
tendency to run red lights and/or drive noisy cars avoid these
intersections, that might be a good thing.

Actually, they are very useful to those of us that would NEVER run a red
light. The presence of a red light camera at an intersection actually
increases the instances of rear end collisions. This is due to the fact that
some people stomp on the brakes as soon as the light turns yellow where
there is a red light camera even if they are very close to entering the
intersection. The information in the link below is from the DOT in
Charlotte, NC.

You took the data out of perspective:
4% increase of rear ends
-versus-
angle crashes have been reduced by 37% at SafeLight intersections
angle crashes have been reduced by 60% on the camera approaches
All crash types have been reduced 19% on the camera approaches
Crash severity has been reduced by 16% (per reduction in EPDO rate);
If you rear-end the person in front of you, then you are either inattentive
or following too close. So don't claim innocent drivers are put at risk.
I'd rather see a slight increase in slow speed rear end collisions than
those high-speed collisions where some idiot is trying to make the red light
and T-bones a truly innocence driver who was unfortunate enough to get in
front of the idiot.
