Mapsend DVD or version 3?
|

| I see on ebay the DVD version of direct route which says that it is version
3. I also see CD versions that state they are also version 3 for a much
lower price. Are they both the same? Or are the maps on the DVD newer or
what?

I bought version 2.0f a while back after being assured by the seller
that it was the latest version. When I got it I found it was not newer
than the version I had previously. I called Magellan to find out what
the newest version was. I was told that the version 3 that comes on a
DVD is the only version that has newer data than the V2.0f that I had.
The only major difference is in the amount of detail for Alaska.
They are going to upgrade me to the newer version, I had to fax them a
brief explanation of what happened and a copy of my sales receipt.
After two more follow up calls and a delay of several weeks, they
finally decided that I had to send the version I had to a place in
Oklahoma (I mailed that off last week). As soon as it is received there
they will ship me the DVD version.
I asked the support person what they can't send the new version to me
and let me return the old one and she said I'd have to buy and pay for
the new at the retail price ($99.99)and that they could not refund that
amount to me when I returned the old one because my sales receipt was
for a smaller amount ($69.95).
She acted like it was my fault that I had bought an outdated version.
In reality, it is not possible to identify the most up to date version
from the information on the package and the information on the Magellan
web site.
Magellan has lost me to Garmin for sure. It is only a matter of time now.

| A few notes:
DirectRoute V3 is ONLY available on DVD and is clearly marked on the
package.
DirectRoute V1 and V2 only come on CD.
If you see a listing for DirectRoute on CD - then it is not version 3.
In version 3 DVD is a coupon for a rebate, if you send in your old version..
