REQ: Info on Unit for Vietnam coverage

I have a friend that will be traveling to Vietnam this summer for research on a
book. He will be working from US military maps to locate battle sites and camp
locations. Do anyone know what level of coverage there is for that area and
needed equipment?

if he is using military maps, then the coordinates should be available
from the map, and can be matched with the GPS positions. Don't expect
any source of actual detailed map presentation as the map display will
be largely useless.
