I found a sportrak pro at a local pawn shop, I turned it on and the screen and everything seems to be working fine, although the batteries they have in it are dead so it only powers on for a couple seconds. Now the guy at the store didn't seem to even kno
w it was a gps device or anything about it, and the price is only $19. Theres a good chance he just doesn't know how to price it, but aside from the possibility that something is physically BROKEN, what would prevent me from using it? is it possible it's
locked somehow, or needs a monthly service, or some kind of activation or something? I've never really used gps so I don't know enough to tell what I'm getting. But if the thing works it's a hell of a price. if someone responds, thanks for your time.

As a (former) SporTrak pro owner, I can tell you that they are still a nice
little unit for field use , are WAAS equipped, and don't have "locks" or
service fees. You will need to buy Magellan MapSend Topo 3D uSA or their
road navigation software if you wish to expand its abilities, but it will do
nicely as is. I'd suggest trying fresh batteries to be sure it works, and
an estimate of its street value can be found by looking at completed
auctions on e-bay. The $19.00 is a good deal, I'm sure.

They are still sold and go for over $200 new.
I own one and it's a great device and will acquire satellites in the woods
through pretty dense overhead foliage which is unusual.
I would jump on it.
