I have a Magellan 700 with S/W ver. 5.14 and use it frequently with
little trouble as long as I know addresses of the location I intend to
visit. However, at times I'd like to go to a place I have no address
for but can easily pick a nearby intersection. Intersections of named
streets are easy, but if the intersection is for a numbered highway;
e.g., County Road 23, or GA 140, or I-75, I can't get the Roadmate 700
to recognize the road number. I'd guess that I'm using the wrong format
for inputing the highway name/number. Does anyone know the correct
recognizable format for highway inputs? county roads? state roads?
etc.?

My guess (but I may be wrong!) is that the format may not be consistent for
different states or even within the same state.

I try to avoid this problem by entering the name of an unnumbered road that
I know intersects with the desired numbered road. Then I leave the name of
the second road blank so that I get a list of *all* intersecting roads.
Finally, I scroll down this list to find the desired numbered road.

Another way to find the 700's format, for say a county road, is to drive
over to one and see what's displayed for the current street name.

I know this doesn't really answer your question but I hope it helps until
someone gives you a real answer.

This is the biggest problem I have with the Magellean 700. Here in Texas,
the roads can be US, TX, FM (for farm to market), county which are
designated CR or have the county initials such as VZxxx for Van Zandt
county. Sometimes the numbered road is given a alphabetical local name in
the Magellan and it's a real detective game to figure out what if you only
have a road number and know nothing about the area. I too use the method of
getting one of the streets right and then listing all the intersecting
roads, picking the most likely.

In Georgia (US) there is a custom of naming very short stretches of
highways after politicians. That really screws things up.
