Thanks for all y'alls support. Without notice, phonecall, email, fax,
etc, lo and behold my gps is on my doorstep when I returned from the
first of the trips I needed it for.
Wow. Ok, it seems to work fine, although it does generate a bit of
heat. Comments?

Great news - now I don't have to boycott Magellan products!
Did you test to see if your computer can recognize your RM as a USB drive?
They should have fixed this - it's part of the RM 700's functionality.
In My Computer you can select the RM and right-click on Properties. I'm
curious whether you now have a 10GB or 20GB hard drive. The problem was
probably in your firmware, but if your drive was faulty they might have
given you a free upgrade that runs hotter than the original.
I'm no hard drive expert but I have external USB drives made by SimpleTech
and Western Digital. The former feel much hotter than the latter but I
haven't had any problems with either.
