| I'm thinking of getting a GPS for my car. I've used an inexpensive Magellan
handheld for the last couple of years, and it's been very useful, but I'd
like to go for something that can give me voice prompts and a color display.
Since I almost never use my current GPS outside of the car, I have no
problem with plugging into the cigarette lighter for power. From what I've
seen, the RM360 looks like a good choice. Just wondering if anyone has any
good or bad comments on it. From the descriptions, the SD card is removable,
so I'm guessing it can be updated periodically, probably at a price???

| and, as long as I'm asking, is it possible to transfer the locations I've
got in my current handheld into a RM360 (or any other similar GPS)?... I can
download the locations and store them in a file using my current software,
so can I then upload that file into the RM360, perhaps using software that
comes with it??? Seems like it should be possible....

| I have a Roadmate 360 and it is a decent unit for the price I paid $317.00
US. The Roadmate 360 doesn't have any software to add your positions from
your current GPS. If you have a BJ's Club store near you the Roadmate 760
which is a better unit with a hard drive sell for $399.00 US which is what
most stores are selling the RM 360. The RM 360 has all the maps that you
need but a software program to add your addresses would be a great idea. I
am happy with the accuracy of the unit and found that it is good at
recalculating routes when I decide to go a different way. I brought this
unit after using my brothers Roadmate 300.
Hope this Helps in your decision.

Ed, I am thinking about buying a RM360. I was curious, can you update the
database when new roads are added. I was reading through the online manual
at the Magellan website. The RM360 has a usb connector and cable yet the
manual makes no mention what it's used for. Can you shed any light on that?
Thanks!

The cable is used to update the software and firmware that is in the RM 360.
The updates include new maps as far as I can tell. The RM 360 is a good
deal if you can get it under $300.00 new otherwise go to BJ's and buy the
RM760 that inludes a hard drive for $399.00
Hope this helps.

Since all the map data is on an SD card for the RM360, I don't see how an
update via a USB cable can change that. Wouldn't you need a new SD card?
I'm leary of any GPS with a hard drive because I don't like the idea of it
having moving parts.

| The SD card is 2 Gig and approx 1.5 Gig is used. you would need to up date
the SD card with the Mapsend software sold separately

I read the description of the Mapsend software and it is *not* for the
Roadmate series of GPS's.
I called Magellan technical support hotline but it was too frustrating. The
girl who answered spoke marginal English. I spent half the time saying,
"Huh? What did you say?"
My question is simple: How do you update the map (i.e. streets) on the
RM360? Apparently the USB cable is only for firmware updates.

It depends on where, and how you intend to use it. Today's HDs are
pretty robust.
