| I recently purchased the XL along with Mapsend Topo Canada but have
been told that the software is not compatible with the XL unit. Does
anyone know if there is a patch or conversion program that would make
this work? Or, is there a compatible program with the same detail for
Canada?

Magellan recently published new web pages, it seem harder to find your
way around and they are treating some of the discontinued products,
especially software, as if they had never existed.
This is the page the version of MapSend Topo Canada they are selling now
(stupidly, it makes no mention of a version number):
http://www.magellangps.com/products...b=0&PRODID=1027
and the Compatibility tab says it is compatible with the
eXplorist 210
eXplorist 400
eXplorist 500
eXplorist 600
but does not mention the XL. When I was looking at moving from the
Meridian Color to the eXplorist XL, I elected to stay with my MeCo
because I was going to lose compatibility with the BlueNav product I
owned.
The Meridians and eXplorists use a different format for the map data
files (*.img files) and I think the MapSend Manager program manages that
process and does the appropriate conversion as part of the process of
uploading a file to a GPS.
MapSend Manager is a free download from this link:
http://www.magellangps.com/assets/s... />
for_Web.zip
and you can find some info on it here:
http://www.magellangps.com/products...asp?PRODID=1224
I think Magellan has painted themselves into a corner on a number of
issues like software compatibility for new and older models and the
like. You might try emailing their support to see why you can't use
your version of Canadian Topo with your top of the line XL when the
cheaper models can use it.
Magellan is getting so far behind Garmin on hardware and software
features and software support they that have pretty well taken
themselves out of consideration for me.
I recently bought a Garmin 76Cx and will probably not be buying any more
Magellan products after my Meridian Color has expired from usefulness.

My explorist 400 came with a CD which has a conversion program on it.

OK.. I may be leading you in the wrong direction.. but can
you your computer actually communicate with your XL ?
Can when you connect it via the cable, with no software and
can you open folders containing the routes, POI's etc ?

Right, that would be the MapSend Manager and that is what the OP needs
to install to manage the interactions with his XL. MapSend Topo Canada
will generate *.img files which can be used buy some older hardware,
using MapSend Manager you can get as conversion and upload to either a
*.img file or a *.imi file and the latter format is the one needed by
the newer hardware products.
Why MapSend Topo Canada is compatible with the low end eXplorists and
not the XL is a question that only Magellan can answer. It looks like
the OP bought or was sold a software that is incompatible with his XL,
maybe it can be returned or maybe there is some resolution through
Magellan.
In the cruel world of business, opened software packages often cannot be
returned simply because the seller, buyer, or both parties did not do
their homework on compatibility.

| The Conversion manager is a separate program from the manager. It is located
in C:\progam files\magellan\XL or in my case explorer500
