Available anywhere? Probably not.

I'm picking up little bits along the way just by experimentation and a lot
of searching.
The unit runs on Windows CE.

They lied to me once already when they said I couldn't load Custom POI files
without an expansion card.
Main memory on the 4000 appears to be about 2G, with 600M free out of the
box.
The Magellan POI Editor happily accesses this spare space, lets you put POI
files there and lists them under "Custom" POI's.

When the unit is connected to a "host" computer, you can also see all the
"main" POI and map files.
Alas they are in a different format that the POI editor won't deal with.

They probably don't want the customer to use the spare built-in memory so it
will be available for future expansion of the "main" program and files.
Guess that's not really a problem since I got a 2G SD card for $18.

Next is to try and figure out (if and how) one can have more than one
category, and/or sub-categories in a single Custom POI file.

I agree with the comment I've seen elsewhere regarding the 4000 series: Good
product.......terrible support.
