| Hi, I have an Xplorist 500 and the Topo Canada software... is there a
way to connect waypoints together to create a line on the maps that
will transfer to the unit? Thanks for your time...

You have the topo mapping software both on a PC right and on the 500, right?
If you create a route on the PC it is a group of waypoints. As a route,
the waypoints are displayed over the mapping and connected to each other
by a line drawn over the mapping for display purposes. The waypoints
and the route are the only data that is saved and can be transferred.
Their being displayed as a route and connected by lines is done
temporarily in program memory. As soon as you exit the program or turn
off the GPS
When you upload the route to the 500, you are uploading that group of
waypoints (each with a name, lat/long location, etc.) and information
that tells the GPS that those waypoints are a route.
When you activate or display the route on the GPS it again draws the
points over the mapping data and connects them by lines. If you have
the same mapping data on the GPS that you had on the PC you will see the
same map. If you don't, the route can still be seen but the map details
will not be the same.
The route is only drawn and connected by lines temporarily in program
memory (both on the PC and the GPS).
