Author eXplorist 500 data import capabilities?

I have some files with Garmin waypoints and tracks on that were saved
(from Garmin's MapSource application) in *.gpx format.

Does anyone know of a way those can be changed to a format that can be
uploaded to a eXplorist 500?

As I understand it the only formats that can be used from MapSend
Manager (I have V1.05) are *.upt, *.rte, and *.log files.

Thanks,

Jack

I've never tried it, but apparently a program called GPSBabel
can convert between many formats including Garmin and Magellan.

"GPS Utility" (www.gpsu.co.uk) will do that for you. You can do
either:

1. Do GPS|Setup... and setup "Magellan (USB)", then GPS|Upload and
then navigate to the Explorist removable media, select the appropriate
filetype for direct load to the Explorist.

2. Do File|Save As... and select the appropriate filetype (Magellan
(upt), and in the Beta test version - Magellan (log or Magellan(rte) )

Thanks Alan,

I'm a little embarrassed. I am a registered GPSU user and had 4.5k/V on
my system but tried 4.30.1 instead. I just gave it another try with
4.5k/V and it went fine. The new features I've used in 4.5k/V are going
to be very useful, I'm not using anything else from this point on. :> )

The transfer I was trying to do was starting with some Garmin *.gdb
files someone sent me. When I opened the *.gdb files with either GPSU
4.30.1 or 4.5k/V the track point locations are lost (replaced with
######### ########) on trackpoint 0005 and then again for every 5th
trackpoint thereafter.

I opened the files in MapSource, save them as *.gpx files, and then both
versions of GPSU will process the trackpoints normally. I'm assuming
the issue is with the *.gdb file from MapSource but drop me an email if
you would like to look at one of the *.gdb files.

As always, GPS Utility and your personal attention has gotten the work
done and made me older but smarter.

Thanks,

Jack

Thanks Jim, and you're right, GPSBabel will do the conversion.

Thanks,

Jack

And a big thanks to you all.... I've been playing with converting some
routes and that will work just fine.

Raggs,

Did those *.upt and *.log files that I sent to you work on the eXplorist?

I converted those from the *.gdb files you sent me using the GPS Utility
4.5k/V beta version that Alan Murphy mentions above.

It would be interesting to hear if they worked or not.
