Author Sunrise/Sunset & Soluner tables Question
TRAVIS HUGHES

I have an explorist 200, and it has met my recreational needs (until I got a
boat). Now sunrise and sunset times, and the soluner table are also
important. What would be the best (economical) unit to meet these new
needs? Thanks in advance for any information offered.

I had to look up soluner on Google :-) I also downloaded the eXplorist 200
manual to check out the features of the unit.

It appears to me that the 200 doesn't do sun/moon calculations. The unit
only shows the sun and moon on the compass screen and nothing more.

ALL the eXplorists from model 210 and up DO have a sunrise and moonrise screen.
They also have a 'hunting and fishing' screen that shows the 'best time' to hunt
and fish. I can't attest to the accuracy because I don't hunt or fish :)

(I have two eXplorists.. A 210 and a 500).

Haven't noticed any such in my eXplorist 400, but then I haven't looked
for it.
In spite of my name, I don't hunt.

You made me double check :-)

The 'hunting and fishing' screen is under 'Advanced Features'. It's explained
on page 72 of the English eXplorist 400 owner's manual.

I doubt I will ever use that feature as my physical limitations make
hunting more trouble than it would be worth, given that it isn't
something I ever enjoyed. Same for fishing..

I tried hunting and fishing many years ago. I didn't enjoy it
either.

I use a camera now for shooting wildlife :-) GPS helps me get
around.

Thank you to everyone who replied. I have been looking at an explorist 210,
and I think it will do just fine. I like to fish, it is my "mind mender".
So any benefit from the solunar feature (weather real or perceived) will be
nice. Thanks again for the info.. Travis

Since walking more than a block is pretty much painful, I don't think
there is any chance I will be hunting, or fishing except from a boat.
Can you lean on that GPS? Grin.

The best aspect of a GPS when applied to fishing is that you can return
to a spot, even in the middle of a lake should you find a nice deep hole
with hungry fish in it....

There is some great Bass fishing software out so the handicapped can enjoy
the thrill of fishing right in their computer chair. And no fish to clean.

How about a $10 Palm based PDA from e-bay and
Tide Tool 2.3 http://www.toolworks.com/bilofsky/tidetool/
and
RiseSet 2.1 http://davidbray.org/palm/riseset.html
both for free....

I use both of those on an old Palm III xe
