I just purchased the new Mapsend Topo 3D software and it requires you
to insert the 3rd CD to run. I run this on my laptop which only has an
external CD drive that I don't carry with me. Anyone know a way around
this? Without a solution, I'll likely return the software since I can't
run it since I'm not carrying my drive around with me.

A virtual drive program will let you copy it to the hard drive and the
program will emulate a CD-Rom drive. One program I've had good luck
with is Virtual Drive by Farstone.

You can find that dirt cheap (compared to retail) on eBay. Caveat
emptor, look for a seller with some history and a good feedback profile.

Have you use Virtual Drive with Mapsend products? Several people have report
that it does not work with mapsend (as well as many other virtual drive type
products). Mapsend is a one tough cookie.

No, I have not. I have used it with DeLorme products and a few games
but have not tried it with anything that did not work yet.

Thanks for pointing that out, it may save someone some money. I don't
recall having heard that before.

I think you are mistaken. There are some patches to deal with WinXP SP2
incompatibility problems. But there are no patches to remove the CD key
requirement. For a no-CD option you need to surf the net and/or get out the
hex editor.

I have tried two things without any success: Nero's ImageDrive and simply
burning a CD copy.

I would recommend the MapSendNoCDPatch at
http://freightyard.net/projects/MagellanGPS/. I've used it for awhile and
it looks to work great.

That link no longer works but I found some info by clicking on the "cached" link at the end of a google link for it. Google caches pages when they first find them. The full name of the file you want is MapSendNoCDPatch.zip
