funny! but i get the point.

an acquaintance just got the tomtom xl-s (just under $300) she's new to gps
and is trying it out but tells me that there are current updates to the maps
and that they can be had -- without all the magellan hassles, and often
without cost if you know where to look.
anyone have this tomtom or knowledge thereof, or is that a topic for another
newsgroup.

happy new year to you all, and make sure in the coming year that everyone
you really love, is always and ever cognizant that you really do. (tell her)

As a Magellan RoadMate 700 user I know nothing about Tomtom, but you might
try the Tomtom Driving Experience at www.tomtom.com. If the map-update
capability is just what's in this demo then it probably falls short of your
expectations.

You might also take a look at
http://www.gpsmagazine.com/2007/12/.../> t_card_a.php and
other stuff at www.gpsmagazine.com/

thanks Jerry,
your post was very helpful. i'm beginning to lean very heavily toward the
tomtom. the xl-s seems like a better deal at $230.
i had paid $750 a long time ago, and then another $99 for an upgrade for my
roadmate 700. and although it gets me around, i've had annoying problems
(like wrong way on one way streets and missing roads and nonexistent ones).
ive grown tired of it. the tomtom allows you to make corrections to the
maps - like reversing the direction of a one way street. and it's more
portable; i can use it on my bicycle.
thanks for your help.
happy new year!

Your welcome Cindy,

I, and perhaps Greasy, would like to know who's selling the XL-S for $230.

TIA, Jerry

After seeing my Dad's new TomTom One V3 in action over the holidays, I would
be tempted to get one of their devices if only they made a CrossOver like
device. I need both street and topo modes for my use. Very nice interface
and very good PC/Internet support plus bluetooth/cell phone traffic
capability on some units.
