| Anyone have this unit and what are your thought on it? Does it announce
street names?

The 4040 is a fairly decent unit. It does speak the street names. Some
will say it is too verbose. If it has the next street as
I40/Hiwy64/US1/International Freeway then that's what you hear with no
pauses in between.
The other quirk I'm not wild about : if you are being directed on a route
you have to cancel the route to look at POI's. It does allow you to look at
exit POI's but only if you are on a Highway or Interstate with exits. The
AAA tourbook is very good. All in all it's a pretty good unit. Speakers
have good sound. Pwr adpater plugs directly into the unit and not the
cradle, another quirk.

I've got a 4000 and don't "think" I have that problem.
A lot of things seem to work differently in 3D and 2D.
I distinctly remember running a test route in the city in 3D and "examining"
a POI that turned out to be something that closed 2 years ago. I did not
have to cancel the routing to look at it.
Gotta look at mine re: saying street names. It talks a lot but don't
remember it giving the name of the street being turned onto. Is that a
switchable option? (Might not be present on the 4000 at all.)
