I tried the new update for it. Now I have a blank paperweight. Any
suggestions. I can't seem to get any help from Magellan

Keep pounding on Magellan
Some have reported if/when you get to the right person, they have offered
replacement units
OR
Take it back to where you bought it for a replacement/refund.

Just got back, the unit was replaced where I got it. This makes number 3.
Problems with the others also. Magellan, never again.
Thanks

Sounds like the tune I've been singing. My 760 wouldn't make a decent boat
anchor.
Magellan "customer service" is absolutely the worst in this solar system.
Now have a Zumo 550 on order.

And then the question of the hour is:
If THIS unit also needs the software updated, are you going to try it?? ;-)

Fat chance. Got an E mail this AM from Magellan. They say the unit has to go
back. Got to get a return authorization from them first. Then there is the
turn around time.
I'm glad Radio Shack replaced it.
I'll never go with Magellan again!

Unfortunately, I'm having the same problem with my Magellan Maestro
3100. I performed an update on it and had saved data into my card.
Somehow the card got corrupted and didn't save my data. When I began
the update, it was about 30% finished and then stopped. it said I
was missing the proper software for the update. After that, I didn't
have the backup data. Therefore, I am determining whether it is worth
it to just return the GPS Unit to the store or ask for support. It
seems like I might just take it back to the store.

Absolutely no question about it, you should go for the replacement where you
bought it.

You can try a phone call to tech support if you want an "interesting"
experience but it is highly unlikely that it will accomplish anything
useful. Units sent to them for repair are often lost and total turn-around
time (lost or not) is VERY long.

For future reference: I've heard that you need a 2G SD card and it must be
EMPTY when you start an update. Do the total backup to a folder on your
PC........or a second SD card.
