Author Vista PC does not recognize UCB device - eXplorist 500LE

Ran Installation Wizard v1.11. New eXplorist 500LE connected to PC
running Vista Ultimate 32bit with UCB connector cord from box. PC
error, "Unable to recognize UCB device, no UCB device found. Check
UCB connections at both ends. Retry. If no connection, replace
device." Reattached connection several times, re-ran Nothing found
on Device Manager. Is there a work-around? Is the explorer
possibly bad?

I downloaded the new firmware and the new vista driver, but each
requires unit to be attached and turned on for process.

Do I need to update from a PC running XP first, then move it to Vista
PC?

I had this problem sometime back and it was suggested that I use an USB port
on the rear of my PC rather than one of the front ones. Seems the rear ones
are more directly connected to the motherboard and "hotter". Perhaps that
will help............

Thanks, G.R.,

A good solution. I was on a USB expansion card with a thumb hub, two
splits out. Moved to M.B. USB port. Did not fix.

I have the new Vista drivers, but they need to be installed as
"replace drivers" through Device Manager. This device has never been
installed so is not on Device Manager to change. If I could get the
drivers installed to Vista so it will recognize the device on
connection I would be happy, but I don't see a "cut and paste"
solution.

Nothing helpful on the Magellan support FAQ database. Sad.

The error message states the device is damaged if not found on retry,
and to replace it. Wonder what Magellan would say to that?

Magellan doesn't support Vista. Seem that their engineers aren't that
far along yet...

cheers,
