| My elderly father had his 3410 locked out by T mobile as he did not make a
call for 9 months even though he received a couple. He is on PAYG. I spoke
to them and they informed that I had to buy a new sim card for £15. Can
anyone confirm if this is correct. Do all suppliers have similar contract
conditions. Having surfed the web I managed to unlock the phone but I
believe I need to buy a new sim card. Any suggestions as to where to
purchase a reasonably priced sim on a never ending contract? I see ebay
sell for around £3 but not sure what they are like.
Also my son keeps badgering me about changing his monthly contract phone to
a Nokia N90 but I cannot see them available anywhere especially on O2 is
there a release date yet?
Many thanks
Roger

You can get another t-mobile sim for £2 on their web site

or a vodafone sim for £1.99 with £3 credit here

or orange £1 [url]http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/ sim_connection_pack[

but you need to remember to make a call from time to time

No, T-mobile are probably one of the two worst possible choice for a
PAYG phone. Not only are they difficult about expiring little-used sim
cards, but their call charges are rather steep (though for low users
this is less if an issue).
You would be utterly mad to pay £15 for a replacement t-mobile sim
card. For far less money you could get a Virgin, easyMobile, Tesco or
Tesco Value sim card, all of which run on the same network (and
therefore have the same coverage) and all of which are cheaper.
easyMobile is a poor choice for a low user, because unless you spend
£5 every three months, they charge you 75p per month line rental (they
claim that it is not line rental, but simply a low use charge).
I'd suggest one of the two Tesco PAYG deals for him, even though I'm
not happy with how that company is dominating the retail sector. Their
PAYG sim cards are under a fiver, including postage.

Every PAYG I've ever used required you to do *something* to the
account. T-Mobile and others require you to make a call before the
end of a six month period. Others require that to keep the account
you need to add a topup voucher. If you don't follow their rules your
account will eventually be deactivated and SIMs cannot be re-activated
and you will be required to get a new SIM. If your present mobile is
from one network you will be required to get another from that same
network unless your mobile has been unlocked or never was locked.
