Spain's Telefonica said on Monday it had agreed to buy O2 Plc for 17.7
billion pounds in cash to enter two of Europe's biggest mobile phone
markets, the UK and Germany.

Telefonica said it would pay 200 pence a share, a 22 percent premium to O2's
closing share price on Friday.
