By this, I don't mean free in the true sense of the word. These new
phones have cameras, GPRS and video functions included and Orange will
make their money back when you use these features.

The "free" upgrades are long overdue, in my opinion.

Only if they're unlocked & sold for use abroad would they loose money.
If unlocked & used in UK, most people would probably choose Orange
anyway, as they're Orange branded phones.

Which going by recent newsgroup postings, is what will happen to most
of them (given that most of the people getting these upgrades will be
NG readers who've seen the 'scam' advertised).

Not out of me, they won't!

I shall use it in exactly the way as my old phone apart from things like the
personal organiser, which is useful. Any pictures taken with the camera will
be downloaded to my PC using infra-red, *not* sent to all and sundry as
picture messages. GPRS - well I *might* occasionally use the phone as a
modem to enable my laptop to get internet access when away from home, but
it's not very likely.

The canny mobile user doesn't use stuff like those features.. their
functionality is mostly poor anyway.
I won't even use my "free" upgrades as I'm quite happy with my 6310i
I've just unlocked the new ones and will probably give 'em away as Xmas
presses along perhaps with a free O2 sim :-)

Dunno mate. I ended up with 3x 3120 and 1x K300i
Noks obviously easy to unlock. The K300i I'll most likely give to
relative who is on Orange anyway.

Assuming it's the same as a J300i for unlocking, walk into a shop, hand=20
over 10 =A31 notes/coins, and the phone, get it unlocked, and leave with=20
it.

You can do it yourself, but you need a specific cable, and log in to an=20
online server at =A38 a credit, so unless you're doing a few it's not=20
really worth it.

Any particular shop? Will M&S do it? ;-)

Possibly - but they're more likely to restrict it to the handsets they=20
sell. And may prefer =A330 rather than 10. (-:

Ok smartypants, I should have said your local independent handset=20
unlocking shop. (-:

And there I was expecting people to be picky on the =A31 note bit......

I take it you're referring to Scotland? We've still got them here (Royal
Bank of Scotland notes) but there's a good article on the Bank of England
ones here - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4486173.stm

Cheers

Alan :)

Well there isn't one in the county town of Maidstone.
A guy does them (Ericssons) by post, see eBay, but that's £7 (£10 with
unbranding / update) plus postage to him :-(

Martin

Theres a guy at my local market twice per week and will unlock anything
for ~=A310.=20
Must be similar at most markets.

If it's star_unlocking I've used them before. Very quick turnaround,
back the same week. Should cost about £10 all in for an unlock which I
think is the going rate at shops anyway.
