Author Unlocking SPV C500 for free

Just managed to do this so thought I'd share it:

1. Follow the links on this page -
http://www.modaco.com/ C500_SimLock...00-t207545.html to
download the unlocking software. Currently the zip file is here -
http://www.spv-developers.com/content/SPV-Services.zip.

2. Unzip the 3 files (cert.cab, spvservices.exe and TyphoonNBFTools.dll) to
your PC and copy the cert.cab file to your SPV C500 - any directory will be
fine but I used the \temp directory.

3. Try running the cert.cab file (I did it by going to
Start/More/More/Accessories/File Manager and clicking on \temp\cert.cab).
This will probably produce an error: "The program ... cannot be installed
because it does not have adequate system permissions". You'll get this
because your phone is application locked, ie, it isn't permitted to run
unsigned files such as cert.cab. This is probably a good idea under normal
circumstances (don't want to run any nasties).

4. Go here - http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/comdef.aspx - and follow
the instructions on how to application unlock your phone so that it is
permitted to run unsigned files such as cert.cab. As explained on this
site, your phone will need to be able to connect to the Internet in order to
carry out this procedure. The connection lasts a few seconds.

5. Run the cert.cab file again. This time it should work.

6. Run SPVServices.exe from your PC. You'll need to type "agree" at one
point, but other than that, it's all menu driven.

It worked fine with me and I went so far as to donate a fiver since, after
all, this procedure costs twenty quid elsewhere.

To be on the safe side, I went back to
http://developer.orangews.com/orgspv/comdef.aspx and turned back on the
application locking.

Interestingly, you don't have to visit that page from the phone or have it
connected to the PC while app unlocking it. As long as the phone is able to
connect then you'll be fine. I made sure that it could by visiting a random
webpage first.

Tried afterwards with a Vodafone SIM and it worked straight away.
