I doubt it TBH. BB5 unlocking is coming, but not just yet, and it won't be
a remote method.

Given some of the carp that;s been posted there previously, it makes me
doubt it even more if I'm being honest.

I got the official unlocking codes for my 6680 from Orange last week.

Is there anywhere I can send my IMEI and the 2 unlock codes given to me to
aid in the invention of a BB5 solution?

Simon

It's not that simple. The networks get an SX-5 smart card and Winlock 5
software from Nokia, the smartcard contains the network's signing key
for the certificate in the phones used to verify that the stored
information is intact and has not been tampered with.

Getting any algorithm will only help so much, the real difficulty is
knowing the needed key to sign the internal certificate so that the
phone doesn't reboot every 3 minutes.

Your codes came from Orange, who naturally have the Nokia kit needed.
I'm not sure what the only known working solution (not public either)
from the independent programmers does exactly, but from what I read it
seems that working around the certificate comparison in the phone's
firmware could be very difficult too. Nokia have done a much better job
on this platform, helped by advances in PKI techniques.

But tell someone, it might be useful.

Oh, and it's two codes because Orange lock differently from other
networks, I forget what the two locks actually are, I think one is GID
though.

What is the current situation with getting codes from Orange for
contract handsets? I know it used to be a case of paying up front the
entire remaining term (if any) of the 12 month minimum contract period,
plus £25 or so. I guess you haven't had your 6680 for 12 months yet, so
did you have to pay anything over whatever their current unlocking fee
is?

I wouldnt want to try as you only have two tries and if its wrong the
phone has to be returned to the supplier to be unlocked by cable. All
my 6630s and 6680's i've paid the networks to unlock.
