Author Vodafone - data from text allowance?

It's been discussed on this NG that Vodafone Extras Packs may be used for
texts or data or a combination of both. Does this also apply to text
allowances within price plans?

im on payg, purchased a text pack. DATA DID NOT COME OUT OF THE TEXT
PACK. THATS ONLY FOR CONTRACT CUSTOMERS. NOT PAYG.

On contract, the 'text' allowances are in fact data packages and include any
type of data message, they're just expressed as numbers of text messages -
presumably for the hard of thinking!

Thanks. Can anyone confirm whether this would apply to the 1000 texts
allowance included in the Sim-only "30 day contracts" at
http://snipurl.com/gham ?

Incidentally, the T&Cs for this offer state:
"4. This offer is subject to status, availability and connection to a 30 day
minimum term airtime contract. (Not available on 12, 18 or 24 month
contracts). A disconnection notice can be accepted from the end of the first
month onwards."

Does this mean that the minimum term is in fact one month + 30 days rather
than the headline 30 days?

That looks like a pretty good deal if the 1000 texts can apply to data.

I've been trying to find details of normal GPRS charges, "extras" or the
allowance equivalent on the Vodafone website but keep getting dumped
back in the list of price plans which don't mention GPRS.

The site map has a reference to "extras" which ends up with a page not
found error.

Anyone have a link?

Steve.

What about circuit switched data calls to geographic numbers? Until last
month it was a long time since I made one of these on Voda. The call cost
(the normal 12p/min) came out of the data allowance. I seem to remember
that in the past these came out of inclusive minutes (not the data
allowance) although I may be mistaken. However I've just looked at Voda's
t&c and they state that inclusive minutes cover geographic data/fax calls so
something doesn't seem right here.

Very good question, unfortunatley I don't know the exact answer, However I
would say that circuit switched data calls as they are charged per second
and not per byte would come out of the inclusive call allowance and not the
extras pack.

Kind regards

Exactly what I thought would be the case but the call cost (still a per
second charge) was included in the extras pack according to the bill. I
wonder if an 0845 number would also have been inclusive from the extras
pack?

The data which comes out of inclusive extra packs is only when
connected through vodafone's own portal ie vodafone live. If you
connection to a wap page ie goole, etc, bbci etc, this does not come
out of your extra's pack, this is charged as separate data at the same
rate as vodafone's usual data rate.

I thought all Vodafone Live! browsing was free anyway. Therefore only
non-Vodafone Live! data can come out of the extra pack. So far this
month I've used £3-odd's worth of my Extra pack and I have not sent
anything like that in text messages (zero picture).

In fact, here's an extract from an email from CPW customer services:

> Please be advised, your extra Value Pack, charged at £14 is equivalent to 250

Well, this is news to me as prior to reading your message, i was told
that the extras pack was only for text and mms and use of vodafone live
portals. But who knows, they give me enough headaches on my monthly
line rental as it is. I was told to take the =A340 pack which you could
use for text, mms, wap and internet.
